I'm Andy. I love this site and have been visiting for years. I sometimes feel all alone in my struggles. It is nice to know others have the same problems, dreams and work ethic that I have. I have been a "DIY-er," and builder since I was a teenager. My dad was a carpenter in his younger years and the smell of nails and two by fours brings my back to when I was just a rug rat. I started out building my own transformers (the expensive and hugely popular robots) out of scrap wood. My mom put me to work making these duck baskets she saw in a magazine when I was in the fourth grade. She sold them at a fundraiser for some group she belonged to. When I moved form Montana, were I am originally from, to Las Vegas, one of the motivating factors was that I could buy a house with a three car garage. That kind of thing is hard to find in Montana. I bought one ten years ago and began to fill it with wood working tools. Then I got the crazy idea to get into the wonderful world of metal working. Today I wish I had a six car garage. Anyone know of a town with a bunch of those?! Any way, I do a bit of everything. I am primarily an entertainer, and being handy helps in the building of props, sets and other crazy things that you can not buy at Wal-Mart. I'm the guy my neighbors call when anything breaks. I'm the dude all my friends refer to has "Handy Andy." I love thinking something up in my head and making with my own two hands. It is so satisfying to create something and having it work just the way you imagined. Good Luck in all your projects my friends. ANDY

Andy: i for one wish i lived closer to you because you sound like a great guy. Handy Andy is not a bad name to go by either. i sold Real Estate full time for 30 years and saw a lot of homes so might i suggest buying a home in an older area where you have room to build a huge detached garage.

the most important thing in Real Estate you'll hear is location, location, location which is close to correct when looking for a new spot. what i'm going to look for is a decent area and good neighbors, good neighbors, good neighbors because you can change almost any home to make it work for your needs. i bought a nice sound view and an old home in a neighborhood 30 years ago where the neighbor's kids were all older than we were. we raised our kids with the neighbor's grand kids and great grand kids which isn't all bad, but it would be fun to have a home where we find a lot of like minded people our age for the next home.

in any area there is one or more guys that over build their home or garage and have to move for one reason or another so scope out the neighborhoods you'd like to live in and then be ready when one of those homes comes up for sale for a bargain.

welcome to our group and if you want to share any pictures or more stories please do or just enjoy the threads and post there when you can.
