I've been a lurker for years.

We recently moved out of a house with a too-small garage, and into a newly built rancher with a 1250 sqft 3 car attached garage.

The garage's walls and ceiling are insulated at R-19 (walls) and R-49 (ceiling), just like the house. I have it wired for putting in a mini-split. I will be installing a 18K BTU cooling / 20K BTU heating mini-split

The three 9'w by 8'h doors are from Clopay Intelicore units, insulated at about 9.5 R since they have windows in the top panel.
Ceiling is 10' in most of the garage, with a tray ceiling to 12' in the largest bay.
The 2 bays closest to the house is 26' wide by 26' deep (outside dimensions) at 10' ceiling height.
The mechanic's bay is 18' wide by 30' deep. The ceiling there is a tray ceiling, 10' high around a 2' wide perimeter, and 12'1" high above that in the center.

I just had a Forward DP10A lift installed, columns centered 11.5 feet from the back wall. It JUST fit, height-wise. I still need to wire it - there's a 230V 30A circuit with a box in the tray ceiling near the lift height cutoff switch.

I will be posting about the garage door that is installed in this bay in the general discussion forum, as I want to angle the horizontal tracks up to make some room to have vehicles on the lift and have the door not interfere. It looks like I JUST have enough room to do that.

Anyway, at almost 60 years old, I finally have a garage that feels comfortably large enough to work in, and finally have a LIFT!

I've been reading the garage door topics, and the lighting threads.

I've downloaded DialUX EVO 0 and have built the garage model there, with the lift and a blocky car. I've come up with a lighting plan, but wow, that's not going to be cheap either!

I do all of my own car work, except I don't touch body work or paint.
I love to build engines.
My project car is a Datsun 240Z with a 400 small block chevy V8. If you search the internet for "Pete's V8 Datsun 240Z Pages", you will find my website that documents this 2 decades-old build.

This is a great site with a bunch of knowledgeable people - I love it here!
