Wound up on here while researching a Gerstner tool chest I just picked up, and figured out I'd registered here almost five years ago without ever posting. Sooo, here I am. I'm not a fine craftsman of any sort, but can generally figure out which end of a tool to hang onto, and have done a fair bit of work on vehicles (maintenance and minor repairs/service), and built a few things (in and around the house). Would love to be that fine craftsman someday, when I grow up. After all, I'm only in my 50's (so far).
Here's that Gerstner tool chest. It's in good condition except for the bottom, where the "leatherette" is a little shrunk back from sitting on a damp surface, and it's a little musty. The leather handle is a little iffy also. The felt drawer liners are all excellent except for one small drawer. Only evidence of how it was used is a shotgun bead sight that I found behind/under one of the drawers (still in its wrapper). Any guesses on vintage here? All of the latches are actually marked "Gerstner", and it measures 20"x16"x9.5". I also understand that I can get a key from Gerstner?
