Hi all,

I've been a lurker for a long time, but recently registered and started posting. My name is Billy and I live in Midlothian, VA, just outside of Richmond.

I've been into cars, wooden boats, mechanical repairs and woodworking since I was little. I used to manage a repair/performance shop that specialized in RWD Volvos and assorted other European cars while I was in college/grad school. I also have a minor obsession with R/C cars, especially older HPI Nitro junk. One day, I'll get around to restoring our 1964 Century Coronado which was damaged during Hurricane Sandy (in NJ).

I don't have a garage at the house, but I have a decent aggregate driveway and a 10'x10' gambrel shed I'm in the process of optimizing. My friend and I share a 1500 sq-ft shop just north of the city, in Hanover, VA, with a lift, air, and full woodshop (he's a carpenter by trade). Together, we tinker on sports cars (Lotus Elan, Nissan 350Z, DMC12, e30) and go to track days. Would like to start brewing beer again, once the pandemic eases.

I recently picked up a 1976 Red/Gray Craftsman toolbox from an estate sale. Lucky me, it was full of great older tools. I posted in the gallery thread about those boxes already, but in case you missed it, pics are attached.

The amount of knowledge and passion possessed by you all on this site is impressive. I'm looking forward to browsing the project threads and seeking inspiration in your projects. My wife is not looking forward to the influence I stand to gain from being on the site. :fingersx:

Welcome. I'm planning to move down to that area next year, likely Midlothian. Hoping to find something with enough space to put up a decent shop

Lots of newer homes, built recently. I would start looking soon, if you haven't already. If you need a good, responsive realtor, let me know. Ours is great. Stuff goes quickly here. There are definitely areas on the fringes between Midlothian and Powhatan where land is more plentiful. Or Amelia. Not super far from civilization (I don't know if you'd need to commute or not, but that would play a part in your decision).

Thanks. We aren't planning until mayish next year.

My wife wants Glen Allen, I want space and no HOA. We'll see how that balances out...

Jobs are part of it, which we don't have lined up. I'll let you know if I need a referral, thanks

Welcome to the forum from Canada! I like your Volvo, but I'm really impressed with how thick and green your lawn looks!

Thanks Mike, that was admittedly taken 2 years ago about 6 weeks after a fresh overseed. I had knee surgery after that, and it hasn't looked quite the same since I took a few months off caring for it. It is still green and thick, but the weeds are taking over. This fall, I should have a chance to start over again.
