A couple of posts over at XLForum.net led me here to this site.
I've lived in Chicago for about 20 years, and while there finally had a house with a relatively dry basement and a two+ car garage.
Since then I've moved to the suburbs for better schools for my kids and have rented: a slightly larger 2 car garage and now a barely 1 car garage. It does not hold all of my tools and supplies plus motorcycle and bicycles. Some of the stuff is currently in the basement.
I have found a closed off large attic space above the finished ceiling of the garage. The original opening looked to be too large, it spanned the width of the garage, which is why my landlord probably had it just closed off when he refinished the house. I reframed for a smaller opening and am now moving my more water sensitive stuff to the attic storage.
I still have my house in Chicago and am renting it. I also have had other rental houses as well. So I am always in need of some workspace for renovations and repairs, even though I am currently renting where I sleep.
I have been reading this site to find better storage for a small garage and will be re-configuring my space to allow for storage and access to the above listed stuff.
