Im new here, and I am looking for some information.

I have been wanting to build a shop/garage for a wile now. However, I have NO IDEA where to start. Maybe I can get pointed in the right direction.

I am looking for a 2 bay shop with room to work. 2 roll-up doors and one walk in. In my mind I had planned to put a window unit it to cool it in the summer, and a kerosene heater for the winter (would that work?).

I want the rollup doors to be the same size, but dont really know what size to get. I have a John Deere 5300 Tractor (No cab, foldable ROPS) and a 99 Dodge CTD QC/LB dually that I would like to be able to pull in fully.

I do not know what dementions to look at. What is a good size that wont be over kill, but have enough room for the tractor and truck above, plus room for tools, lawn mower, and space to move around without feeling claustrophobic.

And last, what is the best type of structure, Metal, pole, stick build, cinder block, or is there something else to look at. I want something that looks nice, but it doesnt need to anything fancy.

Thanks for looking, and any help or ideas would be awesome!

Thanks

Where are you located in NC? I'm in Wilson about an hour East of Raleigh. As far as building type, check out my build thread. My 40'x40' was very affordable.

Welcome from Alamance/Burlington. Search this site and you will get more ideas than you can possibly wrap your head around. Figure out what you want to do inside, then get a contractor to actually show you what you can afford. Good luck and keep us posted. Rick

Hi, I'm in Wake Forest, but in Granville county. What county are you? I'm starting a garage soon and got my zoning permit at this stage. Might be able to share some info about dealing with the county and permits (the offices are in Oxford)

I am in Granville County also. That would be great if you could share some of what you have to go threw.

How big a shop are you building, and what kind? the more I look, the more I like pole buildings.
