Hello from Asheville, North Carolina. i was turned on to this site via a link on a VW website i frequent. glad i clicked! i've been spending the past few days reading threads here. i love the tool discussions and the garage information has inspired me to get off my **** and get my "shop" organized. while i don't have an actual garage, i do have a fair amount of our basement dedicated to shop/work space. lucky for me there is a walk-out door, so i guess i could view my basement as a garage with a very small door--i just can't pull a car into it. i also have an understanding wife, which really helps.
i've been working on vintage VW's for years and do mechanical restorations, mostly for pre 1960 VW's, but i do work on later VW stuff too. right now i am finishing an engine for a 1958 Bus that is just about done being totally restored, an engine, transmission and front axle for another 1958 Bus that is 2 weeks away in production from the other bus, and various other small side projects. my personal car project right now is a 1951 beetle, see my avatar. my daily driver is a 1974 Westfalia camper.
i have a Hazet tool "problem", they are just about all i use. i also "collect" (and use) VW special tools made by Matra, Peiseler, Kukko, etc, and am always looking to purchase more. essentially, i love German made tools.
attached is a pic of me in Germany a few years ago, at a Stahlgruber store, in front of a wall of new Hazet tools. i came home from that trip with a lot of tools in my suitcase!
anyway, i hope to be able to contribute to the site in the future, and look forward to becoming more inspired by some of the amazing stuff i see here.
