I'm Paul. From Aylmer Ontario Canada. Been lurking for a while and reading a lot of great and informative threads. I plan on building a 20ft by 30ft shop in my back yard. I'm a lifelong tradesman...31yrs as a millwright and about 12 as a motorcycle mechanic. I own and operate my own shop but I'm looking to retire next year and figure that a back yard shop should keep me out of trouble and probably save my marriage. I'll be the first to admit that I'm no carpenter but that's ok. That's why I'm here.Gonna have lots of questions so thanks in advance for the help!!

Welcome from Calgary.

20’ wide, 30’ deep I hope. Anything less than 22 deep is useless especially if you got a truck.

Definitely go 10’ ceiling, the extra 2’ makes it feel so much bigger for minimal cost.

Welcome from Kelowna!

And I concur with Phantom; I have what I consider to be a better garage than I ever could have hoped for, but if there's one thing I'd change about this blessed place it'd be 10 or even 12 foot ceilings. Primarily for the car hoist potential, but also for the ability to stack bikes or ATVs.

Also, put good thought into the door. Mine's ******* me off with how much space it takes up inside.
