Customary introductory post. Finally own a home with a proper 2 car garage, came here to learn how others are setting up theirs. Professional auto mechanic by trade, I've just run a second dedicated 120v circuit out to the garage & added a 50k BTU NG heater. Now comes cleaning up the 30 years of prior owners neglecting it.

Thanks,
-Noltz

Welcome from Northwestern Ontario. How neglected is garage? NG furnace, nice. I’ll add one when I’m too old and decrepit to buck firewood:thumbup:

From Waterloo Region here. Any plans on what you are going to work on in your garage?

I work on cars a lot, so ideally a Bendpak in-ground scissor midrise, but that won't be first. A Max Jax will work if my pad is thick enough and level enough. There's quite a slope near the house but I think it flattens out near the center. Gotta pour some water and watch where it goes. To that end I pulled a new 120v run to feed new surface mount plugs. I also punched 2 spare 1" holes for 240v runs when time comes for EV charging.

I must say I LOVE that heater. I finally finished the surface mounted wiring today fresh from the load center, so it's all tucked up and neat. It warmed from 4° to 16° in 20 minutes. I'll be adding insulation to keep the heat in better. It's just never been finished, so the drywall is rough and chipped, the lighting was one single bulb (quickly added 2 more roof lights when I moved in). I've been using it for a few years as-was, but I'm going to be here at least 10 more years so I'd best make it what I want now.

I have a 100A subpanel in my garage being fed by 40A breaker in my house. I would recommend doing that instead of dedicated circuits. From the subpanel, you can split off whatever power you need in short runs.
