I found this forum a few weeks ago while looking for information on woodworking vises. Since then, I've been lurking around many of the other threads and I must say, I am in my element!
I currently am a journeyman maintenance mechanic for a steel mill in Portland. Over the past 30 years, I have worked in various blue collar jobs from utilities construction to residential remodeling, auto mechanic, iron worker, welder, and finally an industrial mechanic. I have also moonlighted at the local dragstrip and NHRA's Division 6 as a silver-certified tech inspector. No matter what the area - I love to get my hands dirty!
My hobbies are varied and vast (Squirrel!) as my attention span is short. Aside from metal working, this year I have started dabbling in furniture making and restoration. Since this was something my wife encouraged me to do, I used it as an opportunity to expand my tool collection to include proper workworking tools (beyond the basic Skil saw, et al). This year, I have been having a blast searching CL, eBay, and local yard/garage/estate sales for wordworking tools, which brings me full-circle as to why I am here. In a few, short weeks, I have gleaned more knowledge by reading your threads than I thought possible. As such, I thought it time to stop lurking and join this amazing community.
It is my pleasure to join GJ.com! I look forward to learning more and joining in the chorus of members telling each other how much they ****!
To kick things off, I wanted to tell you all about the woodworking vise I purchased that brought me here. It is never used (looks brand-new) Record 52 (not 52 1/2) woodworking vise with quick-release that I purchased for $25.
Cheers!
