Hello everyone. I'm bran new here.
I was searching for many answers for a potential new garage project and every time I serched on google it brings me on this forum. I was looking on Facebook too, on different groups, but It's so hard to have detailed and organized answers there... Good Forums are now quite rare and hard to find since almost everyone moved on Facebook, which is really sad in my opinion. I ran few Forums myself and was quite happy to find this one with so many people keeping it active. Forum period, when people were taking So, here I am. I'm not sure I'll be able to give half as much as the community here will give me in term of answers, but I'll do my best.

About my project, we currently have a house on a 30K sqf land but for many unfortunate reasons, it's not possible to have a garage on it. The land has a triangle shape and there is no place to pass on any side of the house. We have a neighbour on our left and a free land on our right that belong to the neighbour next to it. We are currently planning to buy it so we would be able to build a garage beside the house, which would be an amazing thing, if everything goes has it should. We'll be limited to 915 sqf tho, so many of my current questions are about the ideal size. Maybe 30x30, 34x26, 24x38... many possible options but we need the layout to work to have the place for my wife's car and mine, our motorcycles (1 each, but I want more for myself ), and workshop. So technically, 3 places with some room around are needed. Also, we have pretty hard winters here in Quebec and we can't ride our motorcycle in that time, so they will be stored in the garage, probably on the third place. We also have some limitations from the city, like only 2 garage doors accepted, the garage can't be wider or higher than the house and there is a stream that flowing on that neighbour's land and one behind the house. The width shouldn't be an issue but the neighbour land is a litle higher since we are on a mountain, so will see if we will be able to dig. We are on rocks around here so , , which will make thing a little more complicated for the implantation. Discussions are already planned with the city planning department this Thursday. Will see from there if we make an offer to the neighbour for his land. The things will roll out from there.

Anyways, long introduction post just to say hi to everyone.

Welcome from Central MN !!

The size all depends on what you want to do. Typically a longer narrow garage will give you more of a garage with workspace while a square garage will give you better access to work on the cars in it. If that makes sense .....

I wouldn't worry about the rocks, they can be moved, blasted or whatever is needed if the desire is high enough to build !!

How will you be heating this new space ?
