Hi all! Been lurking for awhile and have appreciated a lot of little tips I've picked up from several members on the forum... Thought maybe it's time to introduce myself and contribute for a change.

Have a 25x25 garage under a bonus room, that's been fairly well used. Have a couple of race cars I've built, painted, pulled and replaced several engines in here, not to mention more clutches than I'd care to admit (someone on the race team is really hard on them). Do all the work on my 02 E46, my wife's TJ, and our road trip car, an ML500... Getting ready to do some fiberglass work on our sailboat this summer too.

I've built my cabinets from scratch, work benches too. Laminated MDF for the tops, bright white because I like my benches clean enough to eat off of, but believe me they've get totally grimed on a regular basis. Nothing Clorox clean up and Mr Erasers haven't cleaned up (well, a few pin drops of red basecoat haven't completely cleaned up, but that's ok!)

Anyway, here's a few pics and I'll see ya'all around...

DG: so what type of race cars do you build and race? nice clean garage, but i didn't see your big old vise sitting on a bench. you might have to take a look at the vise thread in case you want to see what a few of us found for our benches.

anyway nice first post and feel free to post as many pictures of your cars and race track stuff as you want because i'm sure more than a few of us would like to see some if you have time.

BTW are you the driver that keeps going thru the clutches because it sort of sounded like that in your post??

I'm using a Fuller vise that was handed down to me by my grandfather. After my daughter broke the clip on an IKEA led clip on light, I repurposed it to be above the vise. It's a nice, bright light for aging eyes...

Race cars: mostly Lemons cars at CMP and at CLT, done some hanging out at VIR with PCA lately. We've run a Fiero for several lemons races and a '79 BMW 6 series for a few races... And have found the limits of both of them.

Don't think I'm the clutch killer... Been driving my E46 for over 250K on its original clutch! I've been threatening to put in a go pro aimed at the clutch to find the culprit on the team.

License plates are from places I've lived prior to Raleigh. OH and MI. The weather in NC is much better... As are the job opportunities.

DG: great post. i'm a tool guy and not a car guy, but i can see your passion and sorry for saying you might have been the clutch destroyer. one of our members owns the go pro company and he also has a time lapse track and his name is Denwood if you might want to contact him.

he just turned a somewhat messy 15 x 25 garage shop into an amazing shop and i swear he worked on it every night after work until midnight. Woody is awesome and if you need a few tips about organizing or putting a Max Jax lift in your garage you might read his thread and here's the link. his company website is in his link if you don't already own a Go Pro (I think that's what his unit is called).

http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=263351&highlight=woody

also just so you and maybe others know i do not get paid or receive any tools for welcoming new members and i do so because i would like to have more like minded guys and gals join our site. i figure we all need a little help to get started and a few old timers helped me and i'm just doing the same as we all should try to do.

welcome again and nice story about grand dad's vise and just to let you know i'm trying to mount a 200 pound Reed 4C which should take care of most of the jobs i have since i do like big steel things. here's my 4C pictures. you might have another vise or no need for a bigger one and just saying if read a few pages of the vises of garage journal you might like one.

cheers

DG : Another warm welcome from another old guy. Also a vintage vise collector, but maybe you already guessed that by my avatar. Sounds like you're having lots of fun!

Drivesitfar - nice vise!! If I didn't have sentiment attached to grandpa's vise, or if I had a need to some serious vise work, I'd definitely look for a similar piece of equipment. I've thought about it, and on occasion wished for it (like in the middle of a job), but haven't yet decided an absolute need is in order. Yet.

I don't have a go pro, but the team is awash with them. For some reason, some of these guys think they're me moralizing an awesome lap... But to me they're just gathering evidence to be used against them when they're bragging about what an awesome driver they are. ;)

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone. Looking forward to participating with you on the forum!

DG: thanks for the compliment. hard to think there is an old tool or vise bug, but if you get bit by one there is no cure for not buying them unless of course you run out of money.

welcome and plenty to read already on the threads and if you have any questions just ask or you can PM (private message for GJ members only sort of like internal email) one of the mods. or PM me if you need a quick answer about a vise or old tool.

take care and stay safe.
