Hi All,
As a retirement present I have built a new garage for myself and son to hopefully enjoy our classic car hobby.
Will be looking through this site for tips and advice. Still to have the electrics done and I am hoping to build a workbench from old roof timbers, also wondering if I should paint the concrete floor.
Shed is 9m x 9m and I want to have it laid out as best as I can
I'll try and add a photo later
Donald

KVZ: looks like a great garage and even a nicer spot. is it next to a cliff on the water? i agree painting wouldn't be my first choice. most guys epoxy, race decking made of plastic or i just use rubber horse and gym mats.

tell me are you a golfer cause i thought every Scotsman was?

cheers and welcome to GJ

Hello,

Paint isn't a good choice for the floor, if you drive a car in paint will pull up from the floor and look bad. You might consider epoxy or a race deck type tile. I used a low priced epoxy and it has held up well for 6 years. You can see installation thread, photos and videos of it here:

Cheers,
Your floor looks great something I will look into but need to do it before I put too much stuff into it .
This looks like a super forum ,

What kind of classic cars since you're on the other side of the pond?
At the moment we have a lovely old BMW , a more modern 92 Mercedes convertible and a cute old Toyota hi ace camper that took my son and his girlfriend to Russia .

Hi ,
Yes we live on the West Coast , that part of our garden was an old stone quarry, it was an area that you could only walk to but we moved about 300 tons of stone and earth and made a road in, it's quite sheltered.
Sorry but I'm not a golfer but your next presidents hotel "Turnberry" is just 10 mins north of here.
Your not going to believe this but I don't even drink whisky !!
Don't worry I do have a kilt and can play the bagpipes.

What part of Scotland? I lived in Fraserburgh for 2 years

Hi ,
I'm in south Ayrshire , just north of Stranraer where the ferry service goes to Ireland and 10mins south of Mr Trumps hotel and golf course.
Fraserburgh is about 6 plus hours north

KVZ: looks and sounds like a great spot. i totally understand you not liking or drinking whiskey cause i never did like Scotch and Whiskey was way down on my list too. Ice tea mostly for me these days but i'll drink a nice glass of wine, beer or a good drink with vodka or gin in it if the mood strikes me.

if you have a lot of pictures of your garage build might i suggest starting a thread over in garage gallery with them. also it will be a good place for you to meet members from all over the world and ask questions if you have any like flooring, organizing, tools and so on. some new member's threads can get lost in the thousands of threads so keep updating them as you can and if you don't always have a good garage picture to post just post up a few of Mr. Trump's golf course under construction or St. Andrews or other places i'm sure most of us would like to visit some day.

so if you sport a kilt have you ever thrown a log at the highland games?

I personally love the sound the bagpipe puts out and don't hold it agains me, but i'm a fair golfer too.

I know the area. I've been to Glasgow a few times...Prestwick....Holy Loch (back when the Sub tender was still there)....and I've driven up Loch Ness...which has to be one of the most beautiful drives I've ever taken

My X is from Fraserburg......current wife from Preston

I just happen to be drinking a Scotch at the moment, so I will toast to you and a hardy Welcome to the GJ!

Not being real sure of your application, maybe a concrete sealer will work best for your location, .....which look Awesome by the way!

Very cool, I've always been interested in what other people consider a classic to restore.
