Hello All! I have been lurking around GJ for a long time, but I am FINALLY getting around to starting my 2car garage to 0car workshop conversion.

Generally speaking, my garage is a dark 20x20, unfinished, termite ridden slice of heaven that I have big plans for. Mostly, I focus on woodworking, but I recently purchased a welder so my horizons are expanding rapidly. I have a good bit of clean up to start with as I've been working out of the garage for 4 years while I remodeled my house--minimum functionality was required. However, now that the interior of the house is done, the fun starts and I can really tear into the garage as my primary project.

Once I get my own build page going, I am looking forward to all the great advice and insight I have seen the GJ members share with others! :rocker:

Welcome and since you are redoing a 20x20 have you checked out Jack's 12 gauge garage thread and video? he does a bit of metal and woodworking and still has room to park his 911 inside when he's done.

here's a link to his video that might give you a few ideas. of course we'd love to see your ideas too.

word to the wise get rid of the bugs before you cover them up or put nice stuff in that they can move to.

cheers

I started my adventure on GJ with someone referring me to the 12gauge garage. I have read through that entire thread from end to end more than once...along with quite a few others of course.

I have already started the process of defeating the termites. The foundation has been drilled and poision injected for subterranean termites. I don't see any evidence of dry-wood types, but I have a few 2x4s to replace before I get to the wiring. Lighting is 1st priority, so I have to make the repairs ASAP to get that started.

SF: i just noticed you signed up to be a member before i did and look at the difference in amount of posts. yes i do post quite a bit and i probably lurked and saved up all my questions for maybe 5 or so years before i joined.

sounds like you are doing the right things and if you are able to post up a few pictures of maybe the before just because sometimes it's nice to see where you were then please do and maybe some of us might have some suggestions.

good luck with the termites and your new plan for your garage.

I definitely will post some before pictures. I plan to get started this weekend with taking photos and preparing to document the process. Half the reasoning being to solicit advice from experienced members as I go.

I haven't heard the "Shaky Town" reference since CW McCall's "Convoy". :) Welcome to GJ. I am from California, myself, up north though -- East SF Bay Area. Though I've lived in Ohio for 10 years.
