Just happend upon this site while I was searching for a different tool box. Great site!!! I own a body shop and a detail shop here in Silverton Oregon. We do mostly collision work but average maybe one custom rod or restoration per year. We are working on a 1930 Pontiac right now that is a major fabrication job. Wood inner structures don't hold up too well to 500 horses!!!!Not much left stock. Pretty fun project though. Anyway, great site and I hope to talk to many of you soon.

The owner originally just wanted the car painted. Oh how that has changed. We pulled the car into our shop and took a long look at it. The owner had lots of ideas but had no idea what was involved in building a top end hot rod. He had a pretty straight vehicle but the wood inner structure was really going to mess everything up. We talked him into fabricating a whole different inner structure and things have just snowballed from there. Tom (my father-in-law/ partner)did all of the fabrication work. He tore all of the wood out and re-produced all of the shapes in metal. He then fabricated a new roof, floor and valance. The hood was one that hinged in the middle so it was welded and smoothed over to make one piece. He used a new roof for a Chevy extended cab pickup and formed it to fit. We shaved the doors and added some slick new hinges. He then fitted some BMW Z3 8 way power seats into the tiny interior. That was a tight squeeze!!!! Right now he is fitting the Caddillac trunk latch. It's one of those latches that you just have to barely close and it does the rest. It's kind of a pain in the rear!! There are countless other things that have been done to it but that is the jist of it. The color will be Very Velvet. It turns black in low light and very bright candy red in the sun. Cool, cool color. It should be in the paint shop by next week if we make NO MORE CHANGES!!!! The whole thing should be done in about a month. I will put up some pics when I get back to the shop on Monday.
