Hello from Southern Florida

Hi to the group! My name is David, and I live in Southern Palm Beach County, Florida, sort of between Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach.

I would like to collect a few old cars, so I want to build a two car garage that is tall enough to have a lift in each bay. Being in South Florida, I have to have it built to the current Hurricane code, which means a poured concrete slab and concrete block walls. The roof also has to meet a strict code to keep it in place during high winds.

I would be grateful if other member could direct me to any posts that might be related to building this type of garage.

Hurricane Code now that sounds scary from down here, we are pretty fortunate we do not get winds like that here..

In terms of building codes are you able to start a thread in the General Garage Discussion as we have many members down your way that I am sure can help..

Can I respectively suggest you put your location in your profile, being a global forum it really helps our members assimilate as you post in other threads.

New member here and I am in the exact same phase as you in almost the same location. I bought a house within the last year in pompano beach and am looking add either an attached or detached garage to my place. The estimates ive received have been pretty expensive. One idea I had ended up being $113,000 rough estimate. When I stripped all option, no electric, no a/c, no plumbing for a small bathroom NOTHING but concrete walls and open truss ceiling 44x22. The lowest again "rough" estimate was $75,000. close to budget but im going to try and get some plans done and shop for builders.
