Hello all. I jumped the gun and made afew other posts prior to introducing myself. Please forgive my enthusiasm.
A little about me. I am a married, proud 45 YO father to 2, 13 YO boy and 5 YO girl. I have been in Southern Illinois pretty much all of my life with the exception of 5 years in the 1990's. After 13 years of being a Quality Engineer in the automotive industry I am now a Sales Administrator for an automotive part supplier. I have a hard time paying anybody to do anything that I think I may be able to figure out myself. As a result I find myself being an auto mechanic, carpenter, gardener, toy repairer, you name it.
About my garage. In 2007 I stick built a 24 x 24 garage with the purpose of actually housing 2 vehicles, not to fill with stuff and park the vehicles outside. 7 years later I can still easily get 2 cars in the garage. Hobbies include working on our 150 yo house as well as taking care of our vehicles, I do 99% of required auto repairs, and woodworking.
The woodworking is leading to what I hope will be my next big project. You see, when we bought our dream house 15 years ago our neighbor was the sweetest little old lady who had lived in the house next to us for 40 years. The house was old and modest but she kept it immaculate. A couple of years later she was in poor health and moved in with her daughter and sold the house........to a guy who turned it into rental property. Since then we have had a never ending stream of rotten neighbors, people selling driugs, domestic violence calls to the police, barking dogs and zero maintenance to the house. Recently after calling the owner to complain that the grass had not been cut for a month and that there were bags of garbage laying in the yard he informed me that he has decided that he is not cut out to be a land lord. He is in the process of selling another property he owns across town and would like to sell the one next to use as well. He said he realizes that he is upside down on the property, a 30 year loan coupled with no maintenance will do that, and would like to take the money he makes off the other property to offset the loss he will take on the one next to us so he can get out of both properties with no money out of pocket. Long story short, we would like to buy it. The place is an absolute dump, the plan is to eventually deconstruct the house and put up a 3+ car garage. This size would allow a place for my son to park a car when he starts driving, a place for a toy for me, I would love to have an 80's Porsche 911, and a third bay to set up a woodworking shop. This project is at least a few years down the road but it gives me something to look forward to.
