Hi everyone. I just found your site today -- love all the info on the board...
A little about me: I'm a motor cop and I work in Las Vegas. We live rural, about an hour outside of the city. For fun we like to explore the desert (that is, where BLM still let's us drive) and we do a little rock-crawling too. We have a '92 Cherokee we use for exploring and an '87 Samurai for rock-crawling. I like to do my own maintenance on the vehicles (the newest vehicle we have is a '95) and the 4x4s often require a lot of wrenching and I want to do some fabricating after the garage is built.
We're just starting a 24'x24' garage. We came to this dimension because if we stay under 600 square feet, we can avoid the $2000 soils test and the grading plan. Also, if we're really careful with how much we spend, we'll be able to pay for the garage cash. (The dream of the 50'x80' garage is gone -- for now at least.)
I'm going to have a garage build thread in General Discussion to update the garage as things move along. I'm glad to have found you all!
