...and when I say Upstate, I don't mean Westchester. I mean Adirondack foothills, Schenectady area.

I just bought this garage on one acre, 100 ft of road frontage in a rural residential area. :rocker: 200 amp Electrical entrance,it's about 32 x 40, the big sliding door is 15' wide by 12' high, haven't measured the peak yet, but it looks to be about 22 ft.

streetview

I'm planning a lift, a small basic machine shop (lathe/bridgeport), and a 2nd story woodshop in the upper/lower bay section.

I'm planning a slimmer high bay with a 12 ft ceiling section for the lift, with loft storage above the approach, as I plan on installing the 2-post lift in the back corner, with a dedicated 8 ft door. I can't see rolling anything taller than 8 ft in here, unless I score a deuce-and-a-half or some chunk of old iron. Currently, I've got a '89 Jeep Sahara project, a '62/'69 dune buggy project, a '06 Mustang GT, and eventually want to build a Hot Rod.

I've never really joined a forum before. I'm excited about sharing ideas.

Whaddaya think?

Phil: i like barn/garage, the plan, the machines you own and the vehicles. i guess you qualify as a good potential member. you also know how to post pictures and care to share a few more of the inside and maybe the outside. is that just weather damage or has the barn had some fire damage?

welcome

All I've got is crappy-in-to-the-light-overexposed interior shots, on my cellphone. I'm having a little trouble moving them to my 'Merry Xmas-it's-a-Windows8-laptop' POS that I'm having trouble learning how to use.
I'm working on it. I close on this place in two weeks.

I had a 20x20 uninsulated detached garage a dozen years ago. We had to move to get the kids out of the city and in to a better school district.
I liked that garage and miss it.
I put a coal 'joker' (hot water heater of yesteryear) stove in it for heat, and wired a 100A subpanel to it, a bunch of T12 florescents, a welder outlet, and a buttload of outlets.
I really liked that little shop.
12 years, two career changes, a funeral, and two graduations later, I can actually wrench on junk for fun instead of because I have to.

The damage in the upper right gable of the blurry zoomed download from Google Earth is either unfinished barnboard veneer over old shiplap or damaged same.
I'm planning on reconfiguring the front to feature 2 overhead doors, a narrower tall one on the left, a 7'x12' in the middle, and a man door in the lower right corner. Windows above a black steel overhang shed to shade the doors, and cedar siding over the whole facade:2858ca089f1f7cac21af1be123e3aa53.jpg
Not only 'cause I love cedar siding, but because I have it. Lots of it.

Phil: that is one cool looking garage. i didn't see the flaw, but my readers need an upgrade. your 8.0 computer is MS's way of telling you they are still working on Windows 95. some day they will get it right. even though it's a lot different than the previous Windows you'll get the hang of it even if you just use the features you know from the last few operating programs.

more pictures of that garage when you get time and especially of the insides. just curious what a house and a garage like that on an acre sells for in Upstate New York?

i hope you closing goes better than your luck with Windows 8.0

good luck

Drivesitfar, this garage is the 'Garage Parcel' of two, separate, one acre parcels. The home, a 2000 ft^2 4bed/3bath forclosure, is on an adjacent 1 acre lot. It has frozen plumbing, and a wet basement condition, didn't sell alone at $130K and is going to auction on it's own.
The asking price on the barn parcel is $20K... It's not big enough to be a building lot.

Phil: if the house's issues are fixable that is an amazing garage for $20,000. i'd be lucky to get that built here for $100,000. is it in the process of closing or yours already? or are you still thinking of buying it?

the inside of the garage looks like it has a ton of possibilities.

good luck

I had my energy engineer buddy consult a building/civil engineer in his firm. Between the two of them, they ginned up some creative solutions.
My offer is one of two, they haven't been accepted yet. The other was significantly lower than mine.
I should get it.

Welcome from the capital area. I love the Adirondacks. I go calling up there and in the Catskills.
Is there a house on that property?

No house but there is a hunting camp. There is a nice building lot that would over look Canadarago lake.
