Hey All
Thought I'd finally introduce myself after creeping on here for the last several months.
I live about 30 mins north of Victoria in Duncan BC and bought our house about a year and a half ago. I am fortunate in that I work in the mortgage and housing world so was able to pick up my house at the very bottom of the market here from someone needing to move for work. So we picked up a 1978 split level that hadn't been maintained in the last 6 years. Between the house and having twin 2 1/2 year old girls my life has been somewhat busy and housing projects tend to take a little longer then they should.
This summer in hoping to at least get started on closing in the massive carport that is attached to the house.
The dimensions are 22' wide 30' deep and the ceiling is 9 1/2' tall. I will be taking down the lean-to that a previous owner build, which leaks like a sieve, and the little storage shop that you see at the back of the carport. A couple of the double support beams are rotten so I am going to replace them, I am thinking I may just replace them all to a single beam, only one per group is needed to hold the weight. Will have two single 8' tall doors, a 36" mandoor, and 2 non-opening windows on the long wall.
Wife had a contractor come and look at giving us a quote to do the whole thing, but I am trying to convince her I can do it myself, I have build a detached garage in the past, and would like to be able to take the time after framing to plan the electrical, etc.
I will try and keep a record on here of the build over the coming year, fingers crossed.
If anyone has any suggestions or tips on the enclosing of the carport let me know.
