Hi everyone, I live on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada.

I have been on the HAMB for a while, but I am considering finally building a carport by my house so I am joining this forum, which I think is associated with the HAMB.

I also am interested in old tools, and old collectible stuff in general, which seems to be well covered in this site.

Welcome.

What part of the Island? It’s all beautiful

We have a few friends up in Nanimo and Parksville. There is also a great little pub up in Yellow Point called “The Crow and Gate”

Welcome to the GJ. Not so sure your location 'Beside your house' is going to help you.

May I suggest you update your profile with better location as per what you posted as in future you may find that helps. Specially given this is a very global forum. Often you will find subjects may get different answers depending on locations and regulations.

Well when registering, the site asked where my garage was, so I entered "Beside my house".
But apparently it meant where, geographically, I live. So I'll update that.

I'm at the southern tip of this 290 mile long Island.

I also have to look into the settings, since I didn't get any notifications that all you folks had responded to my intro. Thanks for the comments and suggestions.

I'm a good proof reader!
But too much attention to detail means it takes me ten times as long to build anything.
I'll look at the lumber and try to figure out how to end up with the worst bits of knots and such in the off-cuts, by carefully planning all the cuts.

So - is coffee cheaper down there?

Welcome from across that salt water puddle between you and Skagit County in Washington. I have caught many sunsets from Mt. Sugarloaf in Anacortes, almost line of sight from where you are.

$15 for a cup of coffee? The going rate is $2 to $4.
I can't imagine where you found such an outrageous price, must have been some tourist trap.

I like to travel down once or twice a year to the Seattle / Tacoma area, and the Olympic Peninsula. It's very scenic in the rural areas.
