Been around cars my whole life, but haven't really worked on them much since college. Its amazing how much free time you don't have when you're raising kids and keeping up with sports schedules.
My son is in high school, getting ready to get his driver's license. I'm trying to stay "old school" with him and teach him the general basics of car maintenance and upkeep. Even if he doesn't enjoy cars as much as I do, I at least want him to know how much is involved in properly maintaining a car. I also want him to know how much time it takes to do basic maintenance, and have at least a fundamental understanding of auto maintenance and repair. That way he can have a reasonably informed conversation with his own mechanic someday. At least, that's my intent, anyway. That, and nothing like some bonding time working on a car.
