Man, there are some scary nice garages around here.

I have been reading here for a while and finally registered recently.

I just finished drywalling and painting and then in the past couple weeks epoxying the floor in my garage. I have to do the trim on the doors and windows, but otherwise I am pretty much done for this year (snow flies in a couple months).

Posted a couple "before & after" pics in the Gallery. Still need some things such as a lighting upgrade.

Sounds like we are about at similar completion points for our garages. My floor is done and I'm currently moving my new cabinets in. After that is done, I'll finally be able to install my four post lift and then start enjoying it.

Unfortunately for me I have not even planned beyond trimming out the doors and the window and a lighting upgrade. I am still planning the rest.

Just out of curiousity, what are doing for lights. I am trying to decide between the zero degree rated fixtures with T8 bulbs or the -20 degrees rated fixtures which use the high output bulbs. Since regular fluorescents don't mix with our winter temps, I'm looking at those two options.

Small world- I used to work in DePere many many years ago in a small fab shop. I'm sure its gone now, but I have a fond memory of heat in the shop during the bitter Wisconsin winters.

Living in GB was too cold for me, but the only thing worse was the idea of working cold steel in the shipyards at Sturgeon Bay. I got a job offer there and decided to turn it down when I couldn't stop shivering on the drive back after the interview.

Coincidentally, I now live south of the Mason-Dixon line. Whoulda thunk?

BoostAddiction, even though I love living here and enjoy winter , I can't blame anyone who works outside all day for not liking winter here. I spend all my work time in an office or worst case a heated airplane hangar.

I gotta say though, I have roofed houses in Texas in July and it would be a tough decision if I had to decide between working outside in 100 degree temps for a long TX summer or outside in a cold WI winter.

To make the world smaller yet, when I ordered my Lista cabinets from Charles Marsala, he had just gotten back from taking pictures of your garage and he sent me some copies of them. I fell in love with your garage instantly! I am especially interested in that towel dispenser you put in one of the cabinets. I have tried to find one with a chrome or stainless steel bottom part like yours but I can't find one anywhere. Any suggestions?

And of course I used to be from Wisconsin. I was born & spent most of my life there around Milwaukee. I finally gave up on the cold and came to FL about 10 years ago where I now dodge the hurricanes...

The towel dispenser is a semi-custom deal that I made by taking apart a regular Tork dispenser and mounting the bottom piece through the bottom of the Lista cabinets. It has really worked well for me and was an easy mod to make. The bottom piece is actually chrome-plated plastic, IIRC.

Yup, I have a '57 Bel Air 2dr hardtop with an AME chassis and a 6 speed (T56 Tremec). Well, almost. The chassis is pretty well together now for the initial trial fit of everything. Next week I expect to start taking it apart again for final paint. The engine and transmission are currently at Street & Performance in Mena, AR for trimming and installation of the wiring harness and some of their other goodies. The engine is an LS7 and I have never used a computer controlled engine before so I thought it would save a lot of headaches having someone that knows what they are doing put it together.

In the meantime, the body is totally apart at the body shop undergoing a complete restoration. The bodywork is just about done and, after it is, the body will be going to Detroit for a complete E-Coat undercoating treatment. Then back here for final assembly. Hope to have it done by next June for the Back-To-The-Fifties car show in Minneapolis, then the Pierce Park show.

As far as your question about lighting, my shop has metal halide fixtures which are great if you have high enough ceilings. For a 9' or 10' ceiling, I think I would use the 6 tube flourescent fixtures similar to those sold by Griot's Garage (griotsgarage.com). They are easy to install, very energy efficient and throw a tremendous amount of light without the normal flourescent problems of buzzing, flickering, poor color, cold weather operation, etc. They are not inexpensive but I understand you can get a tax credit that covers most of their intial cost. Your lighting supplier can give you more info. PM me if I can help.
