Hello friends,
My name is Steven, and a come from buckeye country (Ohio). More specifically, I'm from West Portsmouth, Ohio. I have the most amazing daughter on Earth, and I'm prepared to defend that claim:
Katelynn is my world and my inspiration. She has special needs, but that doesn't hold us back. Her mother and I have taken her fishing, horseback riding, boating, caving, creek crawling, hiking, and just about anywhere else you could imagine. We won't be stopped by her "limitations", but why should we? I try every day to give her the fullest possible life, given her medical conditions.
With that in mind, I'm working on a side project called "The Amazing Workshop", in which I'm currently active in designing and building various implements for children with special needs and disabled veterans that allow them to lead fuller lives. If it doesn't exist but it should, I hope to be the guy to call. I don't charge a dime for any of my work (that includes materials).
As for politics, I buy American made whenever possible, and I come from a union (construction trades) and military (army and marine corp) family. Other than that, I would say this country is currently in a mess, and I do what I can to make sure things like public libraries don't get shut down by idiots. I cherish the Bill of Rights, particularly the 1st and 2nd amendments. I have a CCW permit for obvious reasons, and served in the U.S. Army as an Artilleryman (MLRS crewman), based out of Ft. Sill, Oklahoma.
As for the rest of it, I suppose I'm fighting the system. Katelynn will eventually need a kidney transplant (she has polycystic kidney disease). Unfortunately, she doesn't qualify for the organ transplant lists because she has special needs. Therefore, I'll either have to donate one of mine if I'm a close enough match (I'm not her biological father
) or find another donor, or trade one of my parts for someone elses. I would walk to the moon and back if it would help her even in the slightest way.
Moving right along, I have a B.S. in Geology and a pending B.S. in Mathematics. The geology side lets me go interesting places like these:

With that aside, I have an affinity for Samuel Adams and Guinness. I prefer my steaks medium or medium rare, and I've been know to have a bit of lead foot, which I got from my dad. I lost my uncle, Kenny McGue (ironworker whom taught me the finer points of fabrication), whom I was extraordinary close to in May of 99' after a drunk driver went left of center and smashed the car he was riding in (carpooling home from work). It killed 3 of the 4 guys in his car, but the drunk walked away (and never spent a day in jail). I lost my dad recently and unexpectedly (sudden cardiac arrest) after we had spent the afternoon together getting ready for deer season. My dad taught me basically everything I know about turning a wrench, engineering, throwing a punch, etc.
I grew up in a single parent home (with mom) and had a rather hardscrabble youth. We lived in a trailer and only had a kerosene heater to warm the place. Usually, we would turn it on and leave a window cracked, then go to church and hope it was warm by the time we got home. Afterwards, we would turn it out (to keep from asphyxiating) and go to bed. On more than one occasion, I can remember waking up and being able to see my breath. She did the best she could, and I use that same drive to provide Katelynn with the best life I can. We ate a lot of beef stew, mainly because it was cheap and had meat and vegetables. To this day, I can't stand the stuff.
I really enjoy building things and turning a wrench. If I had to do over again, I probably would have become a mechanical engineer and studied metallurgy, but I don't regret going into geology and mathematics, with a strong background in physics. It's great, if only the economy wasn't in the tank.
Anyhow, I think that just about sums it up. I hate tiny little introductions. I'm here to learn as much as possible and forge great friendships. Take care!
