Hello,
my name is Jesse. I'm unemployed but working on getting a job right now.
I am What one might call a shade tree mechanic. (No Paperwork to tell you I can do what I can do) And no g.e.d. or diploma.

I have some hand tools, I had more but from what I can tell A GOOD bit seem to have been stolen from me over the last 5-1/2 to 6 years. I had moved a lot and been through a bad marriage that messed me up pretty bad. But over the last two years have been trying to find myself again. With the help of my beautiful girlfriend and our 8 month old baby boy.

And I have some old tool boxes that where given to me by people that where just going to toss them. One of them is a plastic Craftsman plastic 3 drawer that the top locking tab broke off. And the other is an old Badly water damaged Stack-on 4 drawer. I had the bottom of that Stack-On but it was to the point where it was more of a danger to move than anything. So I junked it about 3 years ago.

I have grown to prefer craftsman but just recently had learned of the Chinese takeover. And I must tell you I am blown away.:scared:

So any help at all would be great guys. To start off with can anybody direct me to a discussion where some body fixed a badly rusted out tool box, And maybe one that had some significant water damage?

Welcome from another new member! Can't tell you much about repairing toolboxes, other than welding and finishing or sheet metal and rivets.

My recommendation from the start is

#1. Get the G E D or a HS Diploma, it doesn't matter what your age is

#2 then get yourself a decent job,you have a family to support

#3. You can find decent toolboxes and tools used in your area, start off small work your way up

I say all this from years of experience with myself and people I know

#1 is the most important ,there are alot of GJ members who will agree with me.

Welcome to the site, check it out you will not be disappointed

UG: unless you want to work for friends or relatives all your life i would also suggest getting your GED and getting a job that has medical benefits. one surgery or illness involving anybody in your family will deplete or bankrupt most people and don't trust yours, your girlfriend's or your kid's life to welfare doctors.

I sounds like you married the wrong girl or you weren't ready and in any case that's good you found someone you enjoy being with now.

there are a lot of us that have to clean up rusty tools and a box for one reason or another so do some reading and you'll learn more than you can ever have time to use. there are so many old rusty tool boxes that have been restored to look and work better than new by the members and a good thread to start reading is in in the vintage tool section under vintage toolboxes.

there are members here that could design and build a space ship if they wanted to so be courteous when you ask questions and you will get good answers. i'm sure you can teach us a thing or two also so feel free to post your knowledge that you know or have learned if it applies.

good luck and welcome to the forum

Howdy and welcome aboard!

Don't mean to sound rude; but if you have a family to support -
I think you should worry about getting a steady job first. A GED
would be nice too; but first support your family financially.

Reading PA,
You know what I have to say that I didn't expect such a large welcome. maybe 2-3 posts at most. So thank you all for that.

I must say that yes I would agree that the g.e.d. is VERY important. so I will have to get on that soon. But I would like to get a job lined up first though. then see what I can do as far as classes. there are always night classes. But once my girl gets back to working soon "from a work injury" it will be third shift and she is also doing online schooling for resident nursing. And then there is that 5 year old son of mine that comes over when my mom is at work. I will explain that one later on...As well as the fact that we are living with my girls family and her grandma is 82 and needs some help here and there. and as far as her mom goes she was disabled from a stroke she had on the o.r. table during a double bypass surgery so she needs a good bit of help since she only has one good hand, one good leg, and can barely talk at all. that 8 month old needs some of my time too.

So time has been a little bit of an issue, I havent been just sitting on my ****.
