I'm a newbie too. I guess my question what do you think you'll be doing most with the space? i.e. car storage, bike storage, box storage, car maintenance, woodwooking, fabrication, welding, man cave? What are you going to, or want to do, the most with the space? Your project sounds fun.

Welcome to GJ. The smart thing that you have to start with is the offset door. Now you have one parking/repair space and still have room to work at a workbench. Good luck with your project.

I would build some shelves up high (above your shoulder ) so they wont be in the way.And a shallow work bench about 18-20" or a fold up bench.....

It isn't just the lights, it's the way the light is used. Lighter colored walls do help, but it's your garage.

Yours is a small place. You should look up posts by Jack Olsen on how to maximize work space and yet be versatile. I'm thinking about a "pass through" work bench that would be accessible from the inside and the outside. Of course, I have to figure out how to lock up with an overhead roll up awning or something.

With a carport type cover on the side, you could double your work space.
