I heard about this forum over at fourtitude and just had to look, since i'm in the process of making a home in my current garage I thought I'd join in.

Of course what's a post with out photos so here's the current status of my garage. It started out as the catch all for the rest of the house, which took up what's now basically my half. I built a small "shed in a box" in the backyard and spent half a year sorting all of the items in the garage.

The yellow paint drives me crazy, I'm still debating about painting it but will probably break down. At the moment most investments in garage items I'm making are movable. I'm a student and will be moving away from home when my budget allows, so I'd like to be able to take most of my garage with me.

What you can't see in the photos is under the cabinet next to the tool chest is my 20 gal Porter Cable Air Compressor. I'm still trying to figure out how to get the intake outside, since the other side of the cabinet is an external wall. I also have a shop vac hiding on the other side.

I also have an audi allroad, it's my favorite car I've owned so far and I couldn't imagine trading it in for anything.

Welcome!! That's a nice start, and the shed idea is a "MUST have", to get all the **** out of the way. There are plenty of good ideas on this board and you won't get bored looking at the solutions that other members have devised.

Good luck --

Super neat. I thought, at first, that I was looking at a kitchen with a car parked inside. A lot of very nice cabinetry. Did you build them yourself?

I don't understand about the compressor and outside air. I do note that compressors generate a lot of heat and need to be in the open when running. I would not operate a compressor in an enclosed space.

So, what if I wanted to sound proof a 8X8 room and put my compressor in there? Would I need a fresh air intake or an exhaust vent out?

I wish I could say I did but unfortunately it came with the house I suspect that the owner before the one we bought it from built them. The person we bought it from basically sat on it for 2 years and didn't have anything in the garage other then his car and a few small things.

Currently I have been running it with the door open but eventually would like to run a vent through the wall behind the cabinet that goes outside. I also read up on the compressor thread about a guy who ran the intake filter outside, it's the 8th post down. Mine doesn't look like it was ever intended to be run elsewhere, you have to take the top off the pump to get to it. I may just install some ventilation from outside and call it good.
