A brief introduction. I'm a retired person with 30 years experience in Law Enforcement and 10 years experience as a small business owner. My business was residential remodeling and did a few commercial jobs. I've been completely retired for 3 years. I'd like to discuss a question about correct sizing of a support beam. Oregon residential speciality code does not seem to be free online anymore. I don't need to purchase an entire code book for one question. I can provide span length, ground snow load requirements for the area, preferable materials for this remodel. Hopefully I can do the structural work as the door replacement is quite expensive. I am replacing smaller double doors with a single garage door. Framing requires that I remove a small post and install a support beam overhead. Thanks in advance.
