Hello,
My name is Jason, and I’m out in the California central valley. I’ve always found this site while googling different things, so I decided to join. Anyway, looking forward to gaining a lot of useful knowledge and some different perspectives on how to do so many things. Thanks for having me and I look forward to meeting some of you all. I can already see I’ll be spending a lot of time in the classifieds section!

Welcome!
Tell us a bit more about your garage related activities.
Me, I collect bench vises. Buy, sell, and trade.

Well.....I am a stationary engineer, so I have tools from just about every trade. I’m really interested in metal working at the moment. I have inherited my great grandfathers 1927 south bend lathe. Chain driven (apparently it’s pretty rare). I’m gonna head down to the Modesto Junior College soon and see about enrolling in a beginners machining class. In my garage, I have a Hobart handler 210mvp welder, a wire wheel, a buffer, a grinder (all pedestal mounted), and a drill press (in addition to the previously mentioned lathe). I’m looking for fooling right now- so I’m going through craigslist and OfferUp on the hunt haha. I have 3 craftsman boxes. One full of craftsman/snap on/Mac/Matco/sk and cornwell automotive tools. Another box full of (mostly) Klein and Proto tools and the third box is for meters (all fluke) and tools that live in boxes (like dial indicators and I/o calipers and micrometers and that type of stuff). I’m looking for an air compressor right now as well- and I can see A LOT of threads on the topic. Hope that answers your questions about my garage. If not- I can be more specific. I’d put up some pics, but it’s an embarrassing mess right now.

I’m embarrassed to say that right now I have the shittiest harbor freight vise. It *****. I want to pick up a Wilton bullet, but they’re SOOOO damn expensive! Ideally I’d get a big one. I’m about to get some railroad track from the local railroad office here and make myself an anvil. I found a sh*tload if railroad spikes in a junk pile the have in an empty lot. Stumbled upon a homeless encampment while I was at it too haha

Thanks James-W. How’s the weather out in Wisconsin today? It’s about 102 out here in the Central California Valley. Pretty damned hot!
Hey Shiftless, I see you buy/sell/trade vises. Must cost a fortune to ship a vise huh? I can’t imagine it’d be an inexpensive thing to ship. PM me and let me know what you have for sale please. I don’t have anything to offer in trade I don’t think. I’ll just trade you cash haha. Never met a soul who wouldn’t trade anything for the right amount of cash!

Since you’re only out in the east bay, I’d just drive out and pick it up. I’m out by Modesto/Stockton. Right in between actually.
