First off I want to say hello and WOW what an addicting site. I have been reading and checking out the awesome pics of some really great shops and getting a ton of ideas.

Well I have moved to a new house and my garage is under my house so it is for parking only. I have a little under 5 acres and we dont have any real strict building codes.

This summer I will be building a detached shop. My Dad is a general contractor and we will be doing all of the work ourselves.

I would like some opinions on the rough design I have come up with so far. What would you change? What would you make bigger/smaller? Best location for lift?

My wish list is to have:

1- dedicated paint booth (left bay)
2- Lift and general body work fab area in center bay
3- parking for mower, general yard items (right bay)
4- dog kennels just for while we are at work. Our dogs are house dogs

The dimensions are a little hard to see they are
left and right bay 16'W x 28' L
center 32'W x 38'L

Thanks for you time and suggestions.

Kenny

Geneeral thoughts:

Left bay changed to 32' deep (still even 4' increment) to allow for hoods, fenders, etc in addition to the body to be able to spray them at one time. I would also do the same to the right side bay to allow for storage of oil drain, ****** lift, etc. and still allow room at the rear of the building for the kennel. This would make the rear of the kennel flush with the center bay.

At the left bay, rear of the building, I would add a shed roof for "outside" under cover items (hoses, wheelbarrows and the like).

By the way, welcome to GJ !!!

Thank you for the ideas. I did not include the dog runs that will be on the rear of the right bay. That is only the real reason for the offset on the rear so they will kind of be hidden from the eye and weather. I agree with the up size in the booth so I would have the ability to paint hood and body at the same time

The problem is I dont even know if this is the correct design I am just having a block on coming up with more designs. All I know is that budget wise I am limited to about 2400 square ft.

Thanks Kenny
