HELP! Auto Garage Door Gets Stuck

The garage door decided to stop being normal! I have to hold the button down completely until it is finished opening or closing.

When I'm in the car, the remote does not make the door go up or down.

It's driving me nuts!

Checked for alignment.
Checked for electronic eye problems.

Nothing is working!!!

Check the motion sensors one more time.... You have to adjust up and down and left to right. I had that same problem and it was driving me crazy, until I figured out that I was not adjusting the sensors correctly. If that does not work, then follow the wires back to the unit itself... If you cut one of the wires by accident, it will have that same problem.

On my Linear system the receiving safety beam must display both a green light and a steady red to indicate proper functioning. This is somewhat counterintuitive since we usually associate a red light with a fault.

The instruction manual contains the following safety beam indicator table:

Green On-- Power On
Green Off-- Power Off
Red On-- Beam OK, No Blockage
Red Off-- Beam Blocked or Misaligned
Red Flashing-- Beam Aligned Poorly

On my system the painters inadvertently bent one of the safety beam brackets and threw the system out of alignment. Once I understood how it worked, I was able to realign it perfectly.

You also need to be sure to properly adjust the garage opener's open and close limits, as well as the door close and open force for proper safety reversal. Most units will flash fault codes via the opener's lamp which can help in troubleshooting.

I speak from some experience here since the drywallers drove a screw through the original garage door opener inside-wall wiring and the system had to be rewired. So I've been able to test the system in several fault modes.

You also need to be sure the garage door is properly pretensioned. The spring or torsion bar should allow the door to be opened manually and balanced in such a way that it can held at any position.

I had the same problem with my opener. It turned out that one of the wires, running to the sensors, was broken at the head unit.

I have three Overhead garge door openers for each one of my doors. the sensors are at the same hight through out. I had the same issue with one of the doors.
Found that the sensors were conflicting with each other, even though the owners manual said to postion the sensors in certain fasion. In other words one side of the sensor is red and the other green, I had to swap one of the sensors around. But this still did not work.
I simply put a temp peice of metal to block the beams from reaching the other beams. Problem solved.
