I recently picked up this 3/8" teardrop ratchet at a local flea market. I hadn't seen one in this pattern before. It is marked USA VM-44833 and is about 11" long. What vintage would this be? I didn't really need it but it was only $2 :D

i have one of those, i bought it after breaking my favorite kobalt 22800 ratchet, and they are identical minus the extra legnth to the craftsman. im on my second craftsman, the original lasted several years. the actual casing of the ratchet broke between the where the button is and the reverse-forward switch is. that was the first for me.

i also bought 2 more of the kobalts since from cripes for $9 each.

It is polished with a metal selector. .
Are you sure? They look like black metal, the same as the drive square, until you look real close.

I've got a set of those. They would be nice ratchets if they had finer teeth, and much less slop in the ratchet mechanism. I think the ratchet guts of these are the same as the common RP ratchets.
