Help Deciphering John Deere Mower Cast Aluminum Deck Codes

I originally posted this in the "Fabrication & Techniques" section of the forum (see link below) but it doesn't seem to be getting much response there so I wanted to cross-post it here in the hopes that someone can help.

Guessing. Typically stamp's are used by all shifts. They are center punched to indicate date/time/shift. My guess is 4/98 and 3rd week. As time goes by, the next week will be center punched.

Makes sense. That's the only theory I've heard so far that might explain the four compartments that are part of each month. Doing it that way would at least allow you to tell what week, month and year a particular deck was cast.
