Can you help me disassemble this Williams 1/4 Superratchet I picked up at the local flea market today? It needs a good lube. Spanner needed? Or does the selector switch unscrew? Thanks.

Selector unscrews!! And see the two holes by the drive end? That unscrews with needle nose pliers.

Bolster.
Dont try to unscrew the selector. Just stick the ends of a pair of needlenose or thin nose pliers in the holes near the driveplug and turn it out.
(not responsible for broken pliers)

Sweet pics... they look like a ad photo for a watch company or something... would be good desktop background too... the wood is a great background as well! :)
A good tagline for the ad would be something like; "for the man who has everything and loves high quality "tools", the precision and practicality of the Swiss Army Knife, is timeless...."

The selector switch goes through a hole in the center of the pawl that engages the gear. A small bar passes through both the pawl and the selector switch at 90 degrees to the shaft on the selector switch and functions as a retainer to keep the switch in place.

If you slowly rotate the selector switch while looking at the pawl, you will see the end of that bar. Some fine needle nose pliers (or some such thing) will be required to pull it out, thereby freeing the selector switch from the pawl and allowing complete disassembly!

WARNING!: If you rotate the selector switch too far, you can/will shear off the retainer!!!

Warning Warning: If you do stupidly sheer the pin you will be up until 2:30 am making a new one from a wire drill bit and trying to get the darn thing back together.

Thanks guys. Ratchet successfully disassembled and cleaned. The red lube of ratchet love was applied, and now the Permatex gods are smiling benevolently on my new adopted family member.

Family portrait. The second proto is "machine turned" so it has a fish-scale look to it. The last ratchet to the right is a Craftsman, some experiment they did with thin designs, years ago...an ugly ratchet but surprisingly useful with its built in thumbwheel.

Bolster the Craftsman on the far right is one of the stainless steel models isn't it? I liked the ratchets, but, hated the selector levers.

Yes it is stainless and they sell for big money on ebay these days. I have never found one in my haunts, or I would add it.

It's stainless? Huh, looks like cheap chrome. The ratchet says "Lifetime" below the head, and there is a rubber-like handle insert that says "Craftsman" on one side and "Made in USA 43764" on the other. Doesn't say "stainless" anywhere.

Some fool inscribed my name on it years ago. If time travel were possible I'd go back and slap him, and smash his fool engraver. The idiot didn't know he was devaluing all his tools; he was only concerned with getting them back from shop friends.

Is it stainless and then chromed? The selector has a loose, springly, long-throw feel to it. The thumb wheel is stamped and has sharp raised edges. Feels to be about 36 tooth. Redeeming quality is that it's quite thin.

Nope, they had a satin stainless look when new, no chrome look at all.

could you do a thread on how you did it?

Sure. I kept extensive notes, just need to find them. Bought dozens of brushes and did lots of experiments until I was happy with the results. Give me a day or two to dig around, and if I can find my notes I'll publish a DIY.

Some commercial Mannlicher Schoenauer 1903's came that way too...I almost bought one several years ago, 6.5x53? I think, full stock to the muzzle end, but it was $1500, and I just couldn't justify the expense. It had the butter knife bolt handle and everything, gorgeous piece.
