Help figuring out ceiling height...

I am starting my 40 x 30 shop and was wondering if anyone had a way to calculate the inside ceiling height or if your shop is set up the same way. It will have 10' walls and I am putting scissor rafters on the half where the lift is going and standard rafters on the other half of the shop for storage. The roof will be either 6/12 or 7/12 pitch (not sure right now). I searched and can't find any calculator that will help.

budco, ask you truss builder for a drawing of your trusses and you should be able to find your inside ceiling height using the floor to top of plate plus the rise of the truss measurement.

A 6/12 pitch means for every 1' horizontal the rafter will go up 6". If it's 15' horizontal then the rafter will be 7.5' high. Therefore your ceiling height will be 17.5' in the center since you are starting off the top of a 10' wall. It may in reality be a bit lower or higher depending on how it's fastened at the top of the wall. I would need to see the exact rafter design to take that into consideration.

7/12 just means that for every 1 foot horizontal the rafter rises 7". I think you can do the math on that one. (hint: it would be 15" higher than the 6/12 on a 15' span.)

I did find a sight that showed a 6/12 scissor truss has an inside pitch of 4/12. This is what I was trying to find out, the inside height of the ceiling. On a 15' horizontal that would add approx 4' to the center of the ceiling making it 14' total. If you figure the slope going towards the wall it still would give me at least 12' to the back/front of the vehicle on the lift so that should work ok.

Wouldn't that be 5' to the peak of the bottom of the scissor truss? So 15' total?

Then 6' in from each wall would be 12' tall. So 18' of your width would be 12' or taller. Probably count on 16' to be safe.

Your local truss mfg. or lumber retailer will be able to give you the dimensions. Pretty sure HDepot and Lowes also.
