We recently purchased a 1968 ranch house. The porch has settled a bit and it looks like the previous owner used some sort of caulking to fill the gap. What would be a better repair? 4316466085636811e0c17ac0141b91bd.jpg6e511cd2bcdff1c49c1e3659a166f057.jpg

It looks like you're probably a candidate for mudjacking. I had this done on my slab porch a few years ago - a few hours of work (and a few hundred bucks) and everything was level again.

Does that slab slope away from the house? If it slopes, how much does it slope?

If it slopes towards the house, that should be rectified first. You never want water to run towards the home.

How long did it take to open that 1/4"? If 1 year, rectify underlying problem. If 49 years, I'd use gray GE silicon II caulk.

I had silka flex around a cement patio for a few years. I just scrapped it out last week. I bought a bag of Gator Dust and backer rod to replace it last weekend. Hopefully, I get in on Saturday and let you know how it works out.

I think the problem with whatever you put in there is this winter the ground is going to heave and rip it off the wall. Might be a yearly maintenance item. i'd use silka flex with backer of foam. all on the shelf at hd. Get a stone chisel and clean up the mess there first from the previous attempt
