Help Finding an Axle Nut Socket

I'm searching for an axle nut socket to fit the rear axle nut on a 1997 3/4 ton Chevy pick-up. It's needs to be a round 6 pin socket. Diameter roughly 2 19/32"-ish. I went to my local Napa. They couldn't find anything specifically for the truck. They gave me one to try but it was just a hair shy on diameter. I called my Matco guy but waiting to hear back from him.

Any ideas? They told me at Napa that they've tried to search online for one before. A local shop has needed one on a few occasions and has had no luck finding one.

Like this Snap on socket? You can find it half way down the second screen of the on line catalog if you search on "axle nut socket"

The Snap On looks like it could be close. But I'm not sure it's a 70 series axle on the truck. Anyone know a spec. on the diameter?

That Powerbuilt socket sounds about right

My Matco guy told me he's pretty sure he's got the right one on his truck. But I can't meet up with him til tomorrow.

At about $100. I would certainly want to make sure it is the right one or else be guaranteed to be able to take it back.
If the cheap socket is China I would personally want something else-at least Taiwan!

You could also use a Pin-Type Face Spanner if they are not too tight.

I looked at the one I have and there are no makers marks or part numbers on it.

Just has stamped in the top USA and not for impact use, sorry.

That may be Lisle. At least that's how the Lisle tools I have are marked.

A 1997 Chevy 2500 rear axle is most likely a Corporate 14 bolt....... not a Dana 70.

I didn't think it was a Dana 70. That's why I don't think it'll work. There's several nuts the same pattern but the diameter isn't the same.

Of course what I did was take the nut with me when I went to the store and compared it to the available sockets.

I did that with Napa but that didn't work. They also couldn't get anything else remotely close to it.
