I need to know what i could do to smooth out a really rough concrete floor. This is in an old barn that was never finished but my dad and i poored the floor never thinking it would be used, just something to park on. So half the floor was already done and the other half was just poured and screeded, never floated and smoothed so all the aggregate is on top.

So what can i do to smooth it out? I know there are leveling products out there, but i really dont know what to use and what kind of prep i need to do so it doesnt flake off.

Thanks,
John

I already thought about that but it seems like it would cost too much. The area is 40'x15' or so. I want something that i could do myself and doesnt require much $$$.

There are tons of Thin set overlay product out there you can use... Home Depot carries the readymix brand that is fairly cheap. Scofield makes some really nice overlay product that will work well too.

of course, prep work is just as important doing a concrete overlay.. once again.. all oils and solids need to be removed and a profile must be done to the surface for proper adheasion (sp).

You can also rent a large concrete floor grinder from a contractor rental place. You will have to buy the stones that go with the unit. and it will take a long time to grind the floor down smooth.. but at under $100+- a day for the rental.. that might be your cheapest way to go.

there are some other options but they start getting real pricey.
