help gluing something to concrete

Is there an adhesive that will work well for gluing a small piece of round pipe to a concrete slab. I would like to put a small barrel type latch at the bottom of the less used side of my shed doors and would like to try gluing down a small piece of tube to receive the latch. I know the ultimate answer is to just drill a small hole in the slab but I want to try the glue first. So what works best? Only experience I have with glue and concrete is polystyrene insulation in the basement and that has virtually no load on it.

Epoxy is the way to go... if it's smooth concrete you'll have to rough up the area before you attempt to make it stick.

Drilling would definitely be best. I'd drill out a bit oversize, stick a small piece of stainless pipe in there and epoxy around it.

Short answer is "no." At least none I've ever found which will hold in a small area. The differing expansion rates alone will fail the bond. There are some flexible epoxy concrete patching compounds which might be worth a try. If you spread them over a large enough area, basically encapsulating the pipe in a mound of epoxy, it might work for a while.

PL400 Construction adhesive is mighty tough stuff.
I think it's for bonding wall footers to concrete floors etc. from what I remember.
It's been years since I've used it and I probably used it wrong then anyway...

found in the H.D. /Lowes etc.

I'm going to play around with the PL stuff premium or 400, I have used that before with wood on wood and upon disassembly the wood gave before the glue did, for that matter so did liquid nail and some good quality wood glue I have. But concrete is a different beast. I will test it on a something similar and portable, I can bring it in and out of the house to replicate heating and cooling and see how easy it breaks.

I will probably end up drilling the darn hole and I do love the idea of imbedding a piece of stainless tube in there. That was a good idea!

Just drill a hole, then you won't have something sticking up out of the floor to trip over. Your toes and nose will thank you. Use a cane bolt for the door.

Just to add closure I found a bronze bushing with a flange at the hardware store. 1/2" hole in concrete, tap the bushing in and we are all set to go and it is flush (1/8" or less) to the ground.

i asked a similar question last year [gluing 2 pieces of concrete actually] and ended up trying PL 400. That stuff is tenacious. After about 15 minutes i'm positive if i tried to pry up the piece i glued i would have ended up shattering it.
