Help -halted halfway through RustBullet Concrete

Hey everyone,

Long story short, I'd purchased a RustBullet "kit" for my garage two falls ago. Work/wet/cold combined to prevent me from getting what I thought was a safe window to apply. I thought it should keep if sealed, and the project kept getting delayed until this past week/weekend. Needed some mixing, but the initial application looked great, and I tossed on some color flake with the 2nd coat. I was pumped with how well it was going until I cracked open the clear coat and it was rock solid. Great.

I've reached out to Rust Bullet and am awaiting their recommendations, but wanted to see what you all thought as well. I can't find the clear coat on sale anywhere (and am guessing they no longer make it), though am wondering if the duragrade clear would be the best option.

My big concern is what to do with what I have laid down. Sanding with the flake seems like it might be a bit tricky/ineffective (though perhaps not). I do have some metal blast solvent, though am not sure how that would go (willing to test it in a corner to see). Wanted to reach out to the "experts" and see if anyone has any thoughts or experiences with this issue.

Thanks!
Sam

The DuraGrade Clear will work and yes, sanding the surface will be necessary since you will be past the recoat window. 120-150 grit sandpaper will do it. You might lose a few flakes in the process, but most should stay adhered. Flakes and surface will look all scratched up, but once the clear goes on it looks brand new.

I believe you and I spoke. Just send me an email if you need more help. When we sold Rust Bullet it had a shelf life of a year -- and would go hard after that.

You did- thanks Justin. As was the case a few years ago, appreciate the great customer service.

In case anyone finds themselves in this situation- spoke with RustBullet tech, based on amount of flake felt like I had enough of a profile to apply DuraGrade Clear without sanding (and MetalBlast likely would have created a yellow tint). I threw on the clear this morning (its 65 and dry in Wisconsin for the next 5 days in November, what the hell?). Now dry to touch, looks great though have yet to step onto the surface. Will see how it holds up, but pretty happy with how the situation has ended up at the moment.

Put rust bullet down in my 1700sqft shop, would never do it again. After about 6 months it started changing colors and now looks dark gray in some spots and light in others. Even in places where there was nothing spilled on it or anything even put on it.
