Help...How to insulate a metal garage??

Hey boys, Last summer I purchased a metal enclosed carport. Fo rthose of you who havent seen them it's a square shaped hollow steel framing with sheet metal sides basically. For the price I actually love it. I have an issue with dust and debris blowing in slightly. Also thid winter one storm got real bad and the snow was blowing sideways with 50 MPH wind and I had it coming in a little bit along the back edge along the complete a frame. Not alot but enough to put a lil dusting along the front grille of my new car...lol. At that time I had just stuffed some paper towels along the a frame on top of the steel beams. What can I use along those beams and along the top of the roof going front to back as the top is overlapped only and a drip here and there comes in from time to time. Thanks guys any and all suggestions would be appreciated.

id sugest great stuff ( expanding foam^^^) along the bottom, and silicone for the rest of it.

I'd probably expanding foam the gaps, throw some white styrofoam sheets and screw some OSB over the walls after that.


That thing had to be cold working in the winter, atleast you were out of the weather.

Thanks for the great responses guys. I would prefer a lower budget of 300.00 or less but would be open to suggestions. i was thinking of the spray foam in a can I was just worried about making a mess because I am not covering the walls or anything. I am just trying to close the gaps. What does it cost to have a pro come in and do that kind of thing?

I just had somebody come in and do closed cell spray foam walls and ceiling of my 32x24 pole barn, including tearout of the old bubble wrap, total cost was $3200, one too many zero's for you. Closed cell is much more efficient than open cell and is also considered structural as it is rigid.

Before laying out 3-5 bucks a can on great stuff type product, get a reusable gun and cleaner, much better results.
If I am understanding you correctly you want to seal the gaps, not neccasarily insulate the building as you stated.

EXACTLY, I do not want to insulate this building. I just have a car stored there during winter months. I dont work out there. More than anything I just want to seal gaps where dust / heavy rain might be getting in.
