Help I.D. Wood Bandsaw and Questions

I have a bandsaw from my grandfather’s shop (cool!). No idea on age but it was there when I was little back in the 70’s.

I still need to clean it but I can’t find any obvious branding on it anywhere, any ideas?

It’s a wood cutting unit, could it be as easy as changing the blade to use it for metal?

The electric motor runs, surprisingly, but it needs a new cord and sounds like the bearings are rough. If it matters, the motor mounts on a fulcrum shaft using the weight of the motor to tension the drive belt.

I can't help you with the ID.
It depends on what kind of metal cutting you want to do. Ferrous materials generally like slower blade speeds than wood. Your workpiece will get hot very quickly if you use a wood cutting bandsaw, even with a metal cutting blade. You can get by with it if you're cutting aluminum.
A general rule of thumb is to have 2 teeth in your material at all times. If you're cutting 1/4" thick material, your blade should be 8 TPI. If you're cutting 0.060" thick material, you want at least 33 TPI.

Well, since it appears to be true vintage I don’t think I’ll worry about converting it. I’ll peck away at getting it back in good working condition. That’s so cool to think it’s a 30’s machine, I really figured it was a 60’s / 70’s piece.

That’s what is referred to as a snowflake Bandsaw. They are highly sought after, and hard to find. I personally have never come across one, and I actively look for bandsaws to restore.
