I am not a machinist or mechanical engineer. I am an Electrical Engineer in need of some help identifying some mechanical parts so I can go source raw materials to repair a piece of equipment in our shop. The manufacturer tells us the machine is now a legacy product, in other words we will custom make you the part and poke out your eye as well as empty your wallet. I have a drive shaft that is .375" (3/8) 16 splines that slips into a tube that is .875" (7/8) that is the same spline and at one end there is a .75" (3/4) u-joint welded to the female splined tube and the shaft has a .75" u-joint also. I can get the machine work and have the joint tig welded to the shaft if I can just find a source for the pieces. My manufacturing operation is line down until I find a solution. This is a part to a wave solder machine manufactured some 20 years ago. I would give my left one for a new machine, but that is not in the cards for a little while. Any sources for the raw materials would be appreciated.

I found that the product is used in machine automation a fair amount, small driveshafts etc. The driveline shop couldn't quite wrap their heads around what I was asking for, they asked if this was for a model car or something. At any rate we have found sources, thanks for the time guys.

SDP is where I located the shaft and the other pieces needed to fab new shafts. Hopefully the parts will be in by end of week and the machinist can do the voodoo he do so well and make my machine whole again.
