Help ID Air Compressor Specs "EL Smith and Sons"

Hey, I just picked up this 30 gallon air compressor for $100. It cycles fine, holds air etc. I have no idea however the specs on the compressor itself, and have never heard of the brand "EL Smith and Sons". I cant seem to find a serial number or model number anywhere. Any help would be great!

That pump looks like a Quincy to me. That could just be a sticker from the dealer that sold it.What does the plate on the compressor below the dipstick say?

Unfortunately, it doesn't say a thing.

Not a quincy. It looks like an old Le-Roi. Look for a metal tag on the pump. It may be painted over.

My bad. It's a Rol-Air. For sure. Here is a pic for reference. Also notice the correct orientation of the discharge from the coalescing condensate drain.

Awesome..thanks! That will at least give me a bit more to search on.

I have found a few more people with a similar setup, and according to this...http://www.practicalmachinist.com/v...l-smith-portable-20-gallon-compressor-277610/ on mine it's a "bleed chamber" and hooked up properly.

If your going to use the pump for a practical purpose the "pulsation chamber" is useless, actually it is Inefficient, pulsation chambers are valuable on large high pressure piston machines, on a little pump like that it is just more air to waste by bleeding it to atmosphere so that the pump can start without excess load. Unless you have a functional unloader to keep the inlet valves open.

Interesting for sure. It being what looks like original equipment, I'll likely keep it as is though.

As for the pump itself, I'm not so certain it's a Rol-Air. Perhaps they used another manufacturers compressor on that tank?

No luck. I actually sold it shortly after posting as what it developed a pin hole in the tank. Good luck!

If it was assembled by a reputable company then you would get about 4.5 CFM per horsepower. You have a two horsepower motor so it should deliver 9 CFM @ 100 PSIG.

Now if it was assembled by some hack who just threw a bunch of parts at it to sell it quick then who knows how much air it puts out.

It looks like it was done by someone who knew what he was doing though. I wouldn't use it at pressures higher than 125 PSI though.

I know this thread is old but since I own a dual pump E.L.Smith compressor I know what they look like and my post may help future owner of this brand of compressor .

This American company have been sold long ago to the US company American Eagle, today they sell one of the best hydraulic air compressor unit on the market, they still sell parts and even pump!

Old skull is spot on... I have same compressor 143 and parts are same back to the model 84. I bought this pump branded sanborn (but is e.l. smith (p.k. lindsey) was bought out by american eagle. Mine had pressure rating max 165 running 95-120.
