Anybody ever see a circle-D mfgr's mark for Craftsman before? This is the marking on the shank of an auger bit...

Also interested in determining the vintage.
Based on the vaguely geometric C, the style of the bits, and the case materials, I am guessing 1950’s, but that is pure conjecture.
The 40's vintage twist drill brace with wooden **** end and swing handle seen here...
...was found with it, but I can’t find a marking, and besides that, it doesn’t look contemporary to the case to me. (I could be wrong.)
The extent of my Craftsman knowledge is pretty much wartime era socket sets. This is outside my niche, but was too good to leave behind.
Any and all help appreciated.
