help ID old blacksmith leg vise

Hi all

I recently brought an old leg vise at a garage sale. It has no manufacturing marks. see attached photos.

This is a 5 inch jaw vise with a 60 stamped into the front part of the vise, 41 inch high. There is also a #3 on the underside of the bracket mounting plate. The front jaw plate is missing. other than that, it is in good condition with no rust as someone coated the whole vise with linseed oil. No other markings.

Based upon my research and photos of other vises, it appears to be similar to a Trenton or Indian Chief based upon the design and profile of the solid Box screw.

Please comment as to your idea as to who manufactured this vise and age.

Gar: welcome to the forum first of all. nice looking vise. you might try posting this over in the vintage section where i started a blacksmith 101 thread maybe a year ago. not a lot of blacksmith vise experts here and since yours has #'s on it that might be a clue to the few guys that know that stuff. ordinarily a lot of blacksmith vises were hand made.

if it's got all the parts and works it's a very handy vise. you can also post it on the big vise thread, but like i said we have a lot of guys that love vises and just not many members have blacksmith ones. i have more vises than most of the membership and i've yet to buy a blacksmith vise, but there were maybe a few i should have cause i could really see the need for at least one or two.
