Never seen anything like that. However, that pin from the ball end looks like it would fit into a tapered hole in a workbench or something. It's clearly not a handle or anything like that. I'm guessing that it goes in a hole. then, you hold the workpiece on the other and and can move it around when needed, using that big thumbscrew to clamp or unclamp the ball and socket pin.Any of you fellas have any ideas? Looks like you mount something on it and then you can orient it via ball joint. What the heck?!!
Thanks guys.
Possibly. The wing nut would be sandwiched though. Unless it wouldn't matter.Never seen anything like that. It's been estimated elsewhere to maybe be an "embroidery hoop holder", which sounds reasonable, except that the tapered portion would have to be dropped into a matching hole; not the easiest type of hole to drill.Testicle resizer? Just a guess, have to ask some of the divorced guys,,,,,,
In actuality I would suspect some kind of Darning tool. Darning is not something most people even think about anymore.
So far, at least to me, this makes the most sense. I can visualize this concept with the device itself, clamped to the edge of a bench or something similar and the workpiece slid down onto the tapered and swiveling plug end. Now you got me thinking bowling ball engraving!!!??? UuuugghhIt looks like a beauticians wig holder. The ones I have seen were a lot newer, made from plastic and had a clamp to fasten to a table top or bench. The tapered pin held a bald Mannequin head to fit the wig on and could be rotated and adjusted to suit. In your pictures I can't see if there is any way to fasten to a bench or table top but the rest of it looks very similar to what I am trying to describe.
You know too, it might be for the hat-maker aka millinery, as well.So far, at least to me, this makes the most sense.
