Picked up these two ratchets at yard sales.
Top one has a head similar to older snap-on & maybe a 1987 date stamp on the selector.
Has a thick knurled handle with numbers 5P7443 USA 1

Bottom one on drive plate says CAT 1U7148 USA.
I have run into Caterpillar impact sockets that were Snap-on equivalent, but this ratchet is not in that arena. Big head.

Ideas?

The CAT ratchet 100% looks like Proto. The other one looks like an old one made by Snap-on. I can't remember the name but I recognize the knurling. How much did you pay? They are very nice!

64merc,
I have 5 bucks in the pair.

I can guess that Proto would make something & stamp it CAT for sale through CAT Dealerships.
But the Snap-on with the knurled handle with very un-Snap-on like number escapes me.
Who was that made for?

Wow, 5 bucks! nice!

The knurling on the Snap-on made ratchet reminds me of vintage Blue-point (also made by Snap-on). I couldn't put my finger on it at first.

CAT puts out bids and there you go, Proto and Snap-On have been suppliers for sure. I have a Snap-on 9/16 CAT wrench that is satin finish.

Yeah, you know, this reminds me of an old CAT wrench sent I ran into once at a pawn shop. I can't remember now, but they were either Snap-on or Bonney. Either way, when I went back the same day, they were gone! oh well...
