I found some wire buried in the shop i work at. The owner knows ive been building a barn and saidI could have it.

I looked all over the wire for an ID, but all i can find is "ALCAN WE 1992". So i measured with calipers, and its 7 mm thick with the insulation and 5 mm bare. It is solid core.

Im guessing its 4 gauge right? Good for around 50 amps?

I looked at the Alcan website but couldn't find a direct reference to those numbers. 1992 may be the year it was manufactured but that's just a guess. It really should have more information stamped on it somewhere, if it doesn't I'd hesitate using it without knowing for sure what kind of use it's rated for. http://www.cable.alcan.com/cablepublic/en-US/

If it's not marked as to the wire type, IMHO you cannot use it.....

Check very carefully, the marking may just be raised and with heat in storage sometimes is hard to read.
