Any help identifying the maker and possibly the age of this chest .....would appreciate all the help......it appears the original color is green like an old Kennedy but has been painted black.....on the lid on the inside appears to be a oval label ...maybe.....there are no drawer slides

That looks a lot like an old DUNLAP box I have. The oval decal is even in the dame place. These are some photos I posted over in the DUNLAP thread.

EDIT- I've moved that owner-added piece on the lid to the lower two holes, so I can see the decal and it is more useful down there anyway. Otherwise, all I've done is wash it off and put it to use.

My Dunlap has more latches but otherwise it’s pretty similar. I think mine is really early. I have no idea who made it but it’s pretty light duty.

You posted some photos of that one right after mine in the DUNLAP thread. Here's that one with the lid open. Yours has double layer side walls, whereas the other two are just one layer. I see that you have four mour latches, with two on the ends as well. That is a heavier dutier version. I like it.

IMG_20201107_142630-X3.jpgMy SK box has diamonds stamped into the drawers fronts as a bezel around the knobs.

this one has a similar ribbing under the lid, but the wrong pulls.

When they are cheap, you gotta grab them. Great thing to pass on to a newbie. Little cleanup, maybe some paint, or felt, and they have something to call their own.

Sometimes they come with a mystery:
Kennedy 520 6.jpg
This is the front cover of a rusty Kennedy 520 I found last June. It is Chinese. Research showed that it is probably a name, and involves "Pine Forest."
